Karwacki Breaks Own NCAA Record as RMU Suffers Loss

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - April 11, 2014 - The Robert Morris University women's lacrosse squad suffered its first loss in Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Friday afternoon to the Bryant Bulldogs, 17-9.

In the defeat, Jessica Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) eclipsed her previous single-season NCAA record for draw controls as she now has 162 draw controls as a sophomore.  Last season, as a freshman, Karwacki collected 152 draw controls to establish the NCAA record that she surpassed this afternoon after recording 17 draw controls against the Bulldogs.

Robert Morris (8-4, 2-1 NEC) scored the first three goals of the contest in the opening six minutes of play, but then Bryant (9-3, 3-0 NEC) responded by holding the Colonials scoreless for 18 minutes while collecting nine goals to take a 9-3 lead.

RMU would pull to within three goals by the end of the first half, trailing 9-6 after 30 minutes of play.

The Bulldogs opened the second half of play with four goals in the first ten minutes before the Colonials found the back of the net with 18 minutes remaining as they were trailing, 13-7.

Bryant would add three more goals, extending its advantage to nine goals, 16-7, with 12 minutes remaining.

The Colonials knocked a goal off of their deficit with ten minutes remaining, and the two teams would each pick up one final goal before the final whistle blew on the 17-9 loss.

Offensively, Robert Morris was led by Emily Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) who netted three goals while Corey Karwacki (Sparks, Md. / Hereford) and Jessica Rutherford (Pylesville, Md. / North Harford) each contributed a pair of goals.

RMU returns to action on Sunday, April 13 when the Colonials conclude their weekend road trip with a contest against Central Connecticut State at Noon.
