RMU Opens Season at Steel City Classic

Colonials to face Duquesne and Akron at Pitt's tournament

Robert Morris opens its 23rd season of women's soccer Friday, Aug. 22, when they take on local rival Duquesne in the opening game of the Steel City Classic hosted by the University of Pittsburgh. The game is slated to start at 5:00 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh.
 
All-Time vs. Duquesne
The Colonials and Dukes have met 17 times since their first matchup in 1994 and it's a series that's been dominated by the school on The Bluff. RMU is 3-12-2 all-time against Duquesne and 0-5-2 dating back to 2003. RMU won three of four games from 2000 through 2003, the last win a 1-0 contest at Rooney Field in 2003.
 
All-Time vs. Akron
Robert Morris has played Akron just twice, the last meeting over a decade ago.  The Colonials lost both games to the Zips by a score of 1-0. The first meeting took place in Moon Township in 2001 before RMU travelled to Akron for a follow up the game the next season.

  • Robert Morris is 6-15-1 all-time in season openers, including a 1-0 win over Northern Kentucky at North Athletic Complex last season
  • The last time RMU played a neutral site season opener was in 2011, a 1-0 win against Syracuse in Ft. Myers, Fla.

  • Kristie Hamilton is the lone returning All-NEC selection after leading the team with 13 points and four goals and five assists
  • Madison Kozlowski also had four goals as a sophomore
  • The Colonials return 11 letterwinners from a 2013 squad that posted a 5-9-4 record last season

The Colonials head back to Ambrose Urbanic Field Wednesday, Aug. 27, to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
