Moon Township, Pa. - Redshirt-freshman midfielder
Erin Ritzer was named the Northeast Conference Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week after helping the Robert Morris University women's soccer team to a 1-1 record at the 2014 Steel City Classic.
Ritzer, who missed all of the 2013 season due to injury, made an immdiate impact in her first career game against Duquesne. The midfielder set-up the gamewinning goal with through-ball to sophomore
Antonia Grese in the 86th minute of Friday's contest. Ritzer had entered the game as a reserve in the 68th minute before her first career assist helped break the 2-2 deadlock.
The Colonials are 1-1 after splitting their two games at the Steel City Classic. In addition to the 3-2 victory against the Dukes, RMU fell to Akron, 2-1, Sunday afternoon.
Kristie Hamilton and Grese were named to the all-tournament team. Hamilton had two goals Friday and added an assist Sunday while Grese had a goal in both, including the gamewinner in the season opener.
Robert Morris returns to the pitch Sunday to take on Pitt Wednesday, Aug. 27. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
