Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Brett Keys 4-0 Win Over Keydets

Neco Brett scores twice, Jared Latchford gets first career goal in 4-0 win

Lexington, Va. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team snapped a two-game skid in convincing fashion, thrashing host Virginia Military Institute 4-0 in the final game of the 2014 Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament at Patchin Field. The Colonials even their record at 2-2-1 while the Keydets slip to 1-4.

Neco Brett had five points, scoring twice and setting up another RMU score, and now has 12 points through five games after leading the nation in scoring last season. Jared Latchford notched his first career goal while Devon Williams had a goal and an assist and Bruce Cullen tallied a pair of helpers.

Williams got the action started early by staking RMU to a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute. The Jamaican-born midfielder worked a give-and-go with countryman Brett before tallying his second marker of the season. Latchford's first career score came in the 41st minute when he was able to put home a rebound of a Cullen shot.

Brett then made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, taking advantage of a nice set-up by Cullen and Williams. Freshman Corey McCurdy set up Brett's fifth marker of the year, threading a long ball down the middle of the field. The junior forward then beat the keeper off the dribble to cap the scoring the 71st minute.

Junior Brenden Alfery earned his second win, and a share of shutout, by making six saves in 74 minutes of work. Freshman Winter Fondi played the final 16 minutes and was called up to make three saves in order to preserve the clean sheet.

Robert Morris returns to the state of Virginia next Friday, Sept. 19, to take on James Madison. The 7:00 p.m. game wraps up a four-game road trip for the Colonials.
