University Park, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University indoor track & field team opened the 2015 portion of its schedule by taking part in the Penn State Relays Saturday at the Horace Ashenfelter III Track.
The meet featured 11 teams, including squads from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big Ten and the Big 12. No team scores were kept as 15 distinct Colonials competed in individual events.
RMU had the most success in the pole vault as it placed two among the top six finishers. Senior
Bethany Ledford tied for third in the event with a height of 3.52 meters while junior
Olivia Loy posted an identical height but came in sixth in her season debut.
Junior
Jessica Guyett only finished behind athletes from the Big Ten in the shot put as her toss of 12.73 meters put her in fifth place.
Sophomore
Rachel Boody just missed out on a top-10 finish in the shot as her career-best throw of 11.51 meters put her in 11th place. Boody also finished in the top half of competitors in the weight throw as her fling of 13.28 meters placed her in 13th.
Senior
Marissa Polk, fresh off All-NEC honors in cross country, made her season debut at Penn State and came in 13th of 34 finishers in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:45.40.
Senior
Tara Van Schie earned a top-10 finish in the long jump as her leap of 5.33 meters placed her in ninth. She also tied for 14th place in the 60-meter hurdles (9.28 seconds), finishing just behind junior
Tatianna Struble who was 13th in 9.26 seconds.
RMU will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 17, as it takes part in the WVU Invitational.
