Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Colonials Fall, 5-3, at No. 10 Michigan

Ann Arbor, Mich. –  It was a hard-fought game by the Robert Morris University men's hockey team, but No. 10 Michigan came away with a 5-3 win Friday night at Yost Ice Arena.

The Colonials took a 3-1 lead into the third period, but were shut out in the final frame. Michigan scored four goals in the third, taking its first lead of the game with 8:05 to play. Zach Werenski netted his first goal of the season on the power play, off a feed from Kyle Connor to make it a 4-3 Michigan lead. The Wolverines pushed it to 5-3 on a goal by Tony Calderone with 5:41 to play.

RMU generated a number of chances in the final minutes with goaltender Terry Shafer pulled. Michigan committed penalties with 2:02 and :44 remaining, but the Colonials couldn't cash in.

Robert Morris took the lead 16:16 into the first period. Brandon Denham forced a turnover, chipped the puck to Greg Gibson whose shot caromed off Wolverines goaltender Zach Nagelvoort. Denham was there to bury the rebound and give the Colonials a 1-0 lead heading into the second.

Midway through the second, Michigan's JT Compher scored to tie the game 1-1, before Spencer Dorowicz returned to action in style. Dorowicz, making his first appearance of the season, tucked a pass from Matt Cope right between the pads of Nagelvoort to give RMU the advantage once again.

The Colonials extended their lead to two with just under two minutes remaining in the second period. Timmy Moore passed the puck to Greg Gibson who fed Zac Lynch coming towards the net. Lynch scored his third goal of the season to make it a 3-1 RMU lead heading to the third.

Michigan outshot the Colonials 47-30, with Shafer making 42 saves in the 5-3 loss, RMU's first loss of the season.

Robert Morris (2-1-2) are back on the ice against No. 10 Michigan (4-0-1) again Saturday at 3:05 pm.
