Colonials Did It For Momma, Beat Sacred Heart

Moon Township, Pa. – Friday afternoon's Robert Morris University women's soccer match against Sacred Heart served as the #DoItForMomma Match to support senior goalkeeper Chelsea de Jager and her family as her mother, Linda, continues to fight bone cancer. And much like Linda, the Colonials did not stop fighting as they defeated a pesky Pioneers squad, 3-2, to win their first Northeast Conference game of the season.

The Colonials have now won four of their last six games and sit at 4-7-0 overall and 1-0 in NEC games. Sacred Heart slips to 3-9 and 0-3 in league play.

de Jager finished the contest with four saves, including two in the game's final 15 minutes. Her best stop of the afternoon came in the 80th minute turning away a point-blank by Alexis Parlato to keep the Colonials in front, 3-2.

The scoring started early with Gabrielle Corrente dribbling from the left wing across to the center of field, drawing the defense before sending a through ball inside the box. Erin Ritzer was there to send her first touch home and give RMU the lead in the fourth minute.

The Pioneers tied the contest in the 13th minute when Emily Montgomery sent a corner kick to the top of the six-yard box. Dana Cosmedy was on the receiving end to score her sixth of the season.

Robert Morris went back on top 10 minutes later after a scramble at the top of the SHU box. Ritzer controlled there, laying off a pass to Kristie Hamilton who sent a curling shot inside the right side netting to make it 2-1. Sacred Heart battled back to tie the game before the half, again using a corner kick to its advantage. This time, Montgomery sent a low ball into the box that Kim McNally blasted into the near right corner, her first marker of the year tying the score, 2-2.
