Rochester, N.Y. – Three individual multi-point efforts paired with a career night for junior goaltender
Jessica Dodds helped the
Robert Morris University women's hockey team to a dominant 4-0 victory over College Hockey America (CHA) opponent RIT Friday night in their first conference road trip of the season.
The Colonials' (6-4-1, 2-1-0) netminder recorded her second consecutive shutout, her third of the season, and now ranks first in all-time career wins (36) and shutouts (9) in Robert Morris records.
Four Colonials' goal scorers contributed to the lopsided victory. Freshman
Maggie LaGue netted the game-winner on her first career goal to spark the scoring surge for RMU. Junior defenseman
Mikaela Lowater scored her fourth of the year and redshirt sophomore
Brittany Howard increased her team lead in goal-scoring to six with a second period tally to increase the lead to 3-0. Junior
Rikki Meilleur posted her third goal of the season to close the game.
A two-goal second period swung the momentum permanently in favor of the visitors, as RMU's Lowater struck just over a minute into the Colonials' first power-play opportunity of the frame. With 20 seconds remaining in the period, Howard found the back of the net on assists from the defensive duo made up of sophomore
Katherine Murphy and freshman
Kirsten Welsh.
Robert Morris utilized special teams early as LaGue put the Colonials on the board 10 seconds into a late first-period power play on assists from juniors
Mackenzie Johnston and Lowater. RMU went 2-for-3 on the man advantage, and continued to defend well on the penalty kill, as they held the Tigers (3-7-0, 0-4-0) to a 0-3 mark on the power play. Meilleur sealed the deal with an unassisted early third period tally.
The Colonials return to the ice at RIT on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m.
