Colonials Drop Final Conference Contest of 2015

Buffalo, NY – Robert Morris men's hockey wraps up the fall semester with a 9-4-3 overall record following a 6-2 loss to Canisius on Sunday night.

Canisius determined to score after being shutout in Saturday's game. Cameron Heath broke Terry Shafer's shutout streak 2:56 into the game. The Griffins took a 2-0 lead at the 6:07 mark with a Ryan Schmelzer goal.

The Colonials responded 90 seconds later less than half way through a man advantage opportunity. Zac Lynch scored his twelfth goal of the season, increasing Robert Morris' NCAA-best power play percentage to cut the Canisius lead in half. Lynch battled along the boards for the puck and danced through traffic to put RMU on the board. The Griffins regained a two-goal advantage with 3:48 to play in the first on a strong individual effort by Shane Conacher, taking a 3-1 lead into the first intermission

Dalton Izyk entered the game in goal to start the second period. Midway through the frame, Izyk made a terrific kick save during a Colonials penalty kill to hold the Griffs lead at two. Canisius able to add to its' lead late in the frame, taking a 4-1 lead into the third.

Robert Morris starts with third with :56 of power play but couldn't cash in. Canisius scores its' fifth of the game with a 5-on-3 advantage on a goal by Ralph Cuddemi. The remainder of that penalty leads to another Griffins power play goal by Conacher, his second tally of the game to make it 6-1 Canisius.

Alex Dagnal puts home the second goal of the game for Robert Morris off a feed from Kyle Eastman :28 after Conacher's goal to make it a 6-2 game.

"We were not very good tonight as a team," said Head Coach Derek Schooley. "We switched goalies to wake up the team, it was not a reflection on Terry. Two of the goals were put in by our own players. This loss is on us as a group. We need to be better."

Robert Morris (9-4-3, 8-3-3 AHC) is off until the Three Rivers Classic at CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh December 28-29, facing off against Penn State at 7:30pm on the 28th. For tickets to the Three Rivers Classic, visit http://www.ticketmaster.com/promo/s9hmg1?brand=consolenergy
