Washington, D.C. - The
Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team kept up its blistering early-season offensive pace with a 24-5 triumph over Howard on Saturday afternoon at Greene Stadium.
Kristin Yoviene and
Corey Karwacki scored six points apiece, while
Brittany Byerly and
Emily Jamison earned five each, helping Robert Morris (2-1) crack the 20-goal barrier for the second consecutive game.
The Colonials, who will complete their two-game road trip Monday at Delaware State, have scored 60 total goals in their first three outings of 2015.
Yoviene, a senior midfielder from Easton, Md., and the reigning Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, collected four goals and two assists, boosting her season total to 22 points (11g, 11a). Karwacki set a career high with four assists, while Byerly kept up her solid early-season play with four goals and Jamison chipped in three goals and two assists.
Sophomore Katie Breeze tied her career best with three goals and set a new personal high with four total points. Corey's twin sister Jessica Karwacki was once again stellar in winning possession; last year's Division I draw-control champion recorded 24 more on a sunny Saturday in our nation's capital.Last week's top NEC rookie
Dana Davis netted a pair of goals, as did senior
Jessica Rutherford and freshman
Kendall Noel, who shined late in her NCAA debut; fellow freshman
Bridgette Champane assisted on both of Noel's tallies. Junior transfer
Amanda Harrington picked up her first goal in an RMU uniform, and senior attack
Emma Baukhages enjoyed a three-point afternoon (1g, 2a).
RMU led 14-4 at halftime, with freshman
Mackenzie Duffy (two saves) and sophomore
Hallie Yancey (seven) splitting the goalkeeping duties evenly. The Colonials outshot Howard 41-15 and converted on all 12 clear attempts; the visitors limited the Bison to an 8-for-13 effort on clears.
Harrington, Breeze and
Jessica Karwacki tied for the team lead with two ground balls apiece. Senior defender
Kristi Marks and Karwacki created two turnovers each.
The Colonials improved to 5-1 all-time against Howard (0-2), taking the last five in a row. Robert Morris will seek to extend its winning streak to three at 1 p.m. Monday when it faces Delaware State for the first time.
