Eugene, Ore. - The
Robert Morris University women's lacrosse team suffered its first regulation loss of the season Friday night, falling 16-4 to the University of Oregon at Pape Field.
Junior attack
Emily Jamison scored two first-half goals - her fifth multi-goal effort of the season - but the Colonials (4-2) could never get a leg up on the Ducks. Oregon (5-1) took a 3-0 lead in the opening 9 1/2 minutes and carried an 8-2 advantage into halftime.
Jessica Karwacki and
Katie Breeze also netted goals for RMU, which will next take the field Friday at Niagara. Senior midfielder
Kristin Yoviene added two points, both assists, to her team-leading total of 29 (14g, 15a), while classmate
Emma Baukhages helped set up a goal for the fifth consecutive game.
The Colonials entered the evening as the second-highest scoring team in Division I women's lacrosse, averaging 18.8 goals per game. However, Oregon caused 10 turnovers and had a 30-14 advantage in shots, handing RMU its first loss since its season opener, a 17-16 double-overtime defeat to Duquesne on Feb. 18.

Corey Karwacki saw her team-best 13-game scoring streak come to an end;
Brittany Byerly and
Dana Davis were also held off the scoresheet for the first time this season. Davis and senior defender
Haley Schemm tied for the team lead with two ground balls. Davis and
Kristi Marks had the Colonials' lone forced turnovers of the night, with one each.
Freshman goalie
Mackenzie Duffy got the start once again, stopping five shots. Sophomore
Hallie Yancey relieved her in the second half, denying three Oregon attempts and picking up two ground balls.
Olivia Pyne (four goals) and Courtney Valdez (three) paced Oregon offensively, with Cambi Cukar (five assists) serving in the primary set-up role.
