Huntington, W.Va. – The
Robert Morris University men's soccer lost at Marshall University, 3-1, in the Veteran's Memorial Cup in Huntington, W.Va. The loss is the second straight for the Colonials who slip to 3-2. The Thundering Herd improve to 4-1 with the victory.
All of the game's scoring occurred in the first 30 minutes of action with host Marshall striking first. Ryan Forde converted on a penalty kick in the 13th minute.
Marshall's first lead last just over a minute as the Colonials would equalize in the 14th minute. A free kick by freshman
Lucas Puntillo was headed home by sophomore
Jake Cooper. It was the first marker of the season for Cooper while Puntillo tallied his sixth point in the last three games.
The Thundering Herd jumped back in front for good in the match's 20th minute. Chris Taibi's second goal of the year came off a free kick service by Christian Kershaw. Chris Sanchez tallied the final marker in the 30th minute, burying a shot following flick into the box by Jack Hopkins.
The Colonials took 15 shots, their second-highest output of 2015. Marshall was credited with 19 shots and senior keeper
Brenden Alfery made eight saves. BIjan Gloston made five saves for Marshall.
Robert Morris will be tested against Sunday, Sept. 13, when they take on #24 Bowling Green in a Noon match.
