Flagstaff, Ariz. – Sophomore forward
Gabrielle Corrente scored in the 89th minute to lift the
Robert Morris University women's soccer team to a 2-1 win against Grand Canyon University at the Northern Arizona University Mountain Classic in Flagstaff Friday evening. The victory is the Colonials second straight and the third in their last four games to improve their season record to 3-5 overall. The Antelopes slip to 3-4-1.
Senior
Cassie Raymond had a goal and an assist and now has two goals and has seven points on three goals and an assist in the last two games.
Keirsten Van Horn recorded her first career point with an assist on Raymond's goal.
After a scoreless opening half, Raymond put the Colonials on top in the 49th minute as she scored off a free kick served into the box by Van Horn. Grand Canyon tied the score in the 59th minute when Taylor Layton found the right corner of the net.
It looked as if the game was destined to go into overtime as play entered the 89th minute. But Corrente made sure that wouldn't happen. Taking a pass from Raymond, Corrente's second marker of the season was buried into the upper-ninety of the left corner, lifting the Colonials to a 2-1 win.
Serena Donmoyer, making her first start of the season, stopped four shots and allowed just one goal to earn the victory.
Robert Morris returns to action Sunday, Sept. 20, when they take on host Northern Arizona in a 3:00 p.m. match at Lumberjack Stadium.
