Kristin Thompson each posted kills in double figures, but the
Robert Morris University volleyball team came up just short in a deceiving 3-0 loss to Radford at Savage Arena Saturday afternoon.
Despite being shut out by the Highlanders (7-6) the Colonials (5-7) dropped each set by a margin of just two points (27-25, 25-23, 26-24).
As a team, Robert Morris combined for 49 kills, the most the Colonials have posted in a three-set match on the season.
Fisher racked up her second double-double in three matches with 11 kills and a team-leading 22 digs. The junior now has seven double-doubles on the season and 29 in her career. Thompson matched her personal season-best output at the net with 13 kills at a .355 clip to lead the attack for the Colonials.
Lord earned her first career double-figure kill performance with 10 and was named to the Blue/Gold Invitational All-Tournament Team. The freshman outside hitter posted a combined 25 kills, 29 digs, three aces and two block assists on the weekend. Robert Morris has now seen one or more players earn all-tournament honors in three of four invitationals this season.
The Colonials hit above .200 for the first time all weekend and the fourth time this season with the help of an efficient attack from freshman
Brianna Schmid (8-for-14; .571), junior
April Krivoniak (5-for-8; .500) and Thompson (13-for-31; .355). Additionally, freshman setter
Liz Campbell aided the offense with her fourth career 40-plus assist performance.
The road to a 17
th consecutive Northeast Conference Tournament begins for the Colonials on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Saint Francis U. in Loretto, Pa., in their conference opener.
