Fisher Posts 30th Career Double-Double in NEC Win

Fisher and Thompson lead Colonials to 3-1 victory over Saint Francis U

Loretto, Pa. – Veteran leaders senior Kristin Thompson and junior Arden Fisher set the tone for the Robert Morris University volleyball team with impressive individual performances and helped the Colonials to a 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-17, 25-11) win over Saint Francis U in their Northeast Conference opener Saturday night at DeGol Arena.

Robert Morris (6-8, 1-0 NEC) improved to 55-9 all-time versus Saint Francis U (2-14, 0-1 NEC).

Thompson posted a season-high 16 kills on 28 attempts to record a .464 hitting percentage. She leads the Colonials with a .324 clip on the year. Fisher continues to be outstanding for the red, white and blue and recorded her eighth double-double of the season and 30th of her career with 15 kills and a team-leading 18 digs. Junior April Krivoniak tallied her second double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs.

The Colonials paired a potent offense with a solid defensive effort to defeat the Red Flash. Five Colonials combined for a season-best seven service aces. Additionally, RMU outblocked SFU, 10-3, with the help of solo stuffs from freshmen Liz Campbell and Taylor Lord and Krivoniak and four block assists from Thompson.

Quoting Head Coach Dale Starr:
Kristin Thompson had an unbelievable match tonight. She was pretty much unstoppable. It was great to see her coming through and really playing like one of the top middles in the conference. Arden was really good tonight. Defensively, she made some really good plays and had some really good swings. She had eight kills and zero errors in the first set, so she really set the tone for us. I'm really proud of the kids. They came out and executed. When you have a full week of practice and you come out and execute, that's what we're looking for. We got better this week, we got better tonight and I look forward to another big conference match on the road next weekend.

The Colonials have a quick turnaround after tonight's match with a Tuesday road trip to Youngstown State on Sept. 29 for a 7 p.m. match against the Penguins in Youngstown, Ohio.
