Robert Morris Completes Sweep, Blanks Bentley, 5-0

Terry Shafer makes 33 saves, extending program record with seventh shutout

Pittsburgh, Pa. – Robert Morris University men's hockey shut out Bentley and scored five goals on back to back nights, completing a weekend sweep of Bentley University with a 5-0 victory on Saturday.

Both teams played a physical first period. RMU led shots on goal 13-8 through 20 minutes of play, but neither team was able to score. Bentley gave Robert Morris four power play opportunities but the Colonials did not capitalize.

Nearing the midway point of the second period, Spencer Dorowicz lifted a puck up the ice to David Friedmann who made a perfect pass from right to left, right on the stick of Rob Mann who fired home his first goal of the season. Mann's third career goal gave the Colonials a 1-0 lead. In the final minute of the period, Greg Gibson brought the puck up the ice, across the blue line, feeding Zac Lynch just to the right of the net for Lynch's seventeenth tally of the season. Robert Morris led 2-0 at the end of the second frame with a 27-17 lead in shots on goal.

The Colonials trend of scoring early in periods continued in the third. Alex Bontje chipped a puck into the net 1:50 into the final session for his second goal of the season, assisted by Brandon Denham and Friedmann. Brady Ferguson gave Robert Morris a 4-0 lead less than five minutes later, a power play goal, his eleventh goal of the season and sixth on the man advantage, tying Denham for the team lead in power play goals. Dan Leavens added a goal with 26 seconds left in the game to give the Colonials the 5-0 win.

Terry Shafer made 33 saves recording his seventh career shutout, extending his program record with his third shutout of the season.
