Panthers' Second Half Offensive Attack Halts Colonials

RMU sets the tone early but HPU gains second half edge

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team set the tone in the first half of a back and forth battle with High Point University, but the Panthers gained momentum in the final 30 minutes of action to edge the Colonials, 15-10, Saturday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium.

RMU (1-3) suffered its first setback at home on the season, while High Point (2-3) won its second straight after the Panthers downed No. 10 Virginia in an overtime thriller.

Senior attack Luke Laszkiewicz and sophomore attack Adrian Torok-Orban each recorded a hat trick with three goals apiece. Torok-Orban led the offense with a career-high four points (3G-1A). Senior midfield James Rahe posted his third consecutive multi-point effort with one goal and one assist. Sophomore midfield Zachary Bryant racked up a career-best two assists, one ground ball and two caused turnovers. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Matt Bukovac made a career high-tying 16 saves.

The Panthers used a seven-goal final frame to secure victory as they traded goals with the Colonials throughout much of the game. High Point posted four consecutive goals late in the fourth quarter to earn a six-point lead, their largest of the game, and RMU would not recover.

The Colonials kept the Panthers on their toes through all 60 minutes of playing time. They managed to score three straight in just over a minute and a half, but High Point answered with the four-goal scoring streak to stymie the RMU offensive threat.

Torok-Orban ignited the Colonials offense early with back-to-back goals to open the scoring and earn RMU an early 2-0 edge over the Panthers. High Point responded with five straight, including two man-up tallies, to swing the momentum in favor of the visitors.

Robert Morris concludes a three-game home stand on Saturday, March 3, when the Colonials host Air Force Academy at 11 a.m. in Joe Walton Stadium.

Hot Streaks
Senior attack Luke Laszkiewicz is riding a four-game point streak. Sophomore attack Adrian Torok-Orban and senior midfield James Rahe have posted points in their last three outings.
