RMU Heads to Campbell Riding Back-to-Back Wins

Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse continues its' road swing heading to North Carolina to visit Campbell University fro a noon game Saturday, coming off back-to-back wins over St. Bonaventure and La Salle.

Robert Morris University women's lacrosse (2-3, 0-0 NEC) scored its' second win of the season in a 12-11 thriller over La Salle. Jessica Karwacki scored with one second remaining to propel the Colonials to victory. The Explorers shot out to a 3-0 advantage before the Colonials battled back. Brittany Byerly continued her hot scoring streak, following up a six-goal performance against St. Bonaventure with a four-goal effort at La Salle. Katie Breeze netted a hat trick with the third goal coming during a man up opportunity with 3:44 remaining to knot the game at 11.

The Colonials and Explorers wered tied 5-5 at halftime. Three of Byerly's goals came in the second half, including a man up goal to tie the game at ten. The Explorers answered with Brittany Edwards' fifth goal of the game to give La Salle an 11-10 lead, but Robert Morris had the final say. Breeze notched the game-tying goal for the hat trick. Karwacki was fouled with one second remaining and was awarded the free position shot and she scored to give the Colonials the victory. Dana Davis scored a pair of goals and picked up an assist for her fourth multi-point game of the year. Emily Jamison also scored a goal, while Corey Karwacki notched a goal and two assists.

Shots on goal were 20-13 in RMU's favor. The Colonials won the turnover battle by an 18-14 margin, clearing 11 of 12 attempts and picking up 12 ground balls. Becky Schoenecker made her first appearance of the season in goal, playing the final 16:01 making one save and recording the win.

SCOUTING CAMPBELL
The Camels were picked fifth in the Big South conference preseason poll.
In their last game, the Camels (2-4) suffered a 17-7 setback at three-time NCAA Tournament participant Jacksonville. The Dolphins turned a four-goal halftime lead to nine with five unanswered scores to start the second half. Six Campbell players found the back of the cage led by a pair of goals from Loren Day. After finishing as the highest-scoring duo in the Big South and the second-highest scoring pair of teammates in the nation last season, Loren Day and Erica Hitch are off to another solid start in 2016. The pair has tallied nearly half of CU's points this season with Day at 23 and Hitch at 22. Day has scored a team-leading 22 goals, which leads the Big South and stands third in the NCAA. Hitch has dished out a team-high 12 assists, which stands third in the league and 14th nationally. Her 2.00 assists per game tops conference and is 17th nationally.

SERIES HISTORY
Campbell and Robert Morris will be squaring off for the second time in program history. The Colonials won last year's matchup 21-16 at Joe Walton Stadium.

OFFENSIVE WEAPONS
Brittany Byerly leads the team with 13 goals and 17 points this season. Dana Davis has been a source of offense, scoring in four of the five games this season, putting up eight goals and five assists on the year. Emily Jamison has added seven goals while Katie Breeze broke through with a big game at La Salle posting three goals.

DEFENSIVE THREAT
The Colonials defense leads the Northeast Conference averaging 9.4 caused turnovers per game.

ALL-TIME LEADER

Jessica Karwacki is the NCAA's all-time leader in draw controls, currently with 571 draw controls, recording a season-high 17 vs. St. Bonaventure. Her career average is tops in the nation at 10.57 per game. This season, Karwacki is averaging 6.6 draw controls per game, first in the NEC and 5th in the nation.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
In addition to Karwacki, several Colonials are ranked in the top 50 nationally in a variety of career statistical categories.
Brittany Byerly is ranked 26th in points per game (3.00), 28th in goals per game (2.23), 35th in career goals (98). Corey Karwacki is 41st in points per game (2.67), 42nd in career assists (45). Emily Jamison is 49th in career goals with 90.

As a team this season, the Colonials rank 24th in the NCAA in caused turnovers and first in the NEC averaging 10.00 per game. Dana Davis is third in the NEC and 22nd in the nation in ground balls per game, averaging 3.20 per game.


WINNING WAYS
The Class of 2015 seniors departed with 36 wins to their credit, the winningest class in program history. The Class of 2016 has been a part of 31 victories thus far, needing 5 wins this season to tie that record.

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE
RMU is coming off back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in the 11-year history of the program, going 10-7 last season after an 11-6 mark in 2014. The Colonials have been at .500 or above for the past three seasons, starting with an 8-8 result in 2013.

Head Coach
Katy Phillips returns six seniors to this year's squad including two-time All-NEC midfielder Jessica Karwacki. Karwacki, a senior midfielder, recorded 169 draw controls in 2015 to lead the nation for the second straight season.

Four of the top six scorers from 2015 will pace the Colonials offense this season.
Corey Karwacki earned all-conference second team honors last season and is the Colonials leading returning scorer (37 goals, 22 assists). Karwacki's 59 points last season are the third-most ever scored by a Colonial. Now a sophomore, Dana Davis earned all-NEC rookie honors last season after scoring 22 goals and 11 assists. Davis also led RMU in caused turnovers with 22. Brittany Byerly (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland H.S) notched 53 points last season and ranks sixth all-time at RMU. Pittsburgh native and senior Emily Jamison (North Hills H.S.) posted 31 goals in her junior campaign.

Robert Morris loses 32.6 percent of its goal-scoring, 39.6 percent of its assists and 34.8 percent of total points from last season's roster, mostly in the form of graduates Kristin Yoviene and Emma Baukhages.

In 2015, RMU's offense scored an average of 13.79 goals per game on 28.6 shots per game. The Colonials were ranked 1st in goals, assists, points, shots and draw controls in NEC play in the 2015 season. Three Colonials players finished in the top 10 in the conference in goals and points, four of the top ten in assists.

Freshman
Sarah Arnold will backstop Robert Morris this season. Returning on defense are juniors Megan Wolfgang, Megan Gold, Megan Yarberry and Amanda Harrington.

Robert Morris was picked to finish fourth in the Northeastern Conference preseason coaches' poll.
