Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Sophomores Shine in 4-1 Win, Force Game Three

Pittsburgh, Pa. – A pair of sophomores shined to lift Robert Morris University men's hockey to a 4-1 victory over Bentley in the Atlantic Hockey quarterfinals and force a game three on Sunday.

Brady Ferguson scored the game's first two goals while Timmy Moore scored a goal and notched two assists. The Colonials found their way onto the scoreboard early. Zac Lynch dug the puck out of the corning, passing to Moore who found Ferguson wide open in the slot and Ferguson cashed in for the goal just 2:14 into the game.

The 1-0 score held into the second, when Ferguson struck again. Moore nearly put the puck past Bentley netminder Gabe Antoni but corralled the rebound behind the net, passing to Daniel Leavens who then connected with Ferguson who tossed the puck off Antoni and in, giving the Colonials a 2-0 advantage.

Ferguson's goal was the first of three in the second period. Midway through the frame, David Friedmann sprung the puck up ice to Brandon Denham who went bar down for his 21st goal of the season. Denham played in his 151st career game Saturday night, tying Cody Wydo's record for most games played in Robert Morris history.

Bentley tallied its first goal of the game with 4:36 remaining in the second with Cody DePourcq putting the puck home.

But the two-goal deficit for Bentley was pushed back to three just 1:23 later. Moore blocked a Falcons shot and took it the length of the ice, firing home his fifth goal of the season. Moore's one goal and two assists mark the first multi-point game of his career. In addition to the two goals Moore has scored this weekend, the Michigan native had one postseason goal last year against Niagara, meaning three of his eight career goals have come during playoff games.

"It's a special time," Moore said following the win. "It's do or die. Everyone bonds together."

"He deserves it," Ferguson said, referring to Moore's work ethic showing on the scoresheet. "He's a hard-working player. It really got our team excited, all the guys on the bench are fired up when he's scores."

Ferguson had gone 13 games without a goal and nearly connected on several of his six shots in Friday's game, before breaking through on Saturday. The Lewisville, Texas native fired 46 shots in those 13 games, finally able to cash in when it mattered most.

"The last month or so, they haven't been coming," said Ferguson. "Three goals from our line tonight, but I don't think that really matters. If we just play our hardest, points will come."
Robert Morris (22-10-4) needs one more win to extend the season and advance to the Atlantic Hockey semifinals. The puck drops Sunday at 7:05pm at 84 Lumber Arena in Pittsburgh.
