Robert Morris Storms Bonnies for 17-10 Victory

Byerly's career-high six-goal game fuels Colonials first win

Moon Township, Pa. – Six goals from Colonials senior Brittany Byerly lead Robert Morris University women's lacrosse to its' first victory of the season, 17-10 over St. Bonaventure.

Byerly (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) tallied her first score 3:27 into the contest, capping a three-goal outburst by the Colonials to open the game. Jessica Karwacki scored just nine seconds in and Emily Jamison picked up her first of the game three minutes later.

LeighAnn Stauffer put the Bonnies on the board at the 21:35 mark but Robert Morris followed with five consecutive goals, two by freshman Kerri Sayrafe, two by Byerly and one from Niki Grillon. RMU held an 8-1 advantage before St. Bonaventure netted two of the final three goals of the first half. The Colonials took a 9-3 lead into the half with Byerly already notching four goals.


The two teams traded goals the rest of the way. Dana Davis picked up two goals in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Byerly, Sayrafe and Jamison continued to pile on the goals. Dominique Zigo scored her third of the season with 6:09 remaining.

Byerly's six goals tie second place in the Robert Morris single-game record book, the first time a Colonials player has scored six goals since February 5, 2012 when Talia Waskowicz netted six against Howard. Byerly also had an assist to finish the game with seven points.


Jamison (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) completed a hat trick, as did freshman Sayrafe, who potted three goals and two assists for a career-high five points. Davis finished with five points as well, adding three assists to her pair of goals. Zigo finished with a goal and two assists.


Eleven assists is a season-high for the Colonials, tied for ninth-most assists in a game in program history. RMU dominated shots on goal 30-14 and caused nine of the Bonnies' 19 turnovers, while the Colonials committed nine total for the game. Robert Morris cleared all eight attempts, picked up 14 ground balls and Jessica Karwacki helped RMU to 17 of the game's 26 draw controls.

Robert Morris (1-3, 0-0 NEC) begins a stretch of four road games with a trip to Philadelphia on Tuesday, March 8 to take on La Salle at 3:00pm.
