Colonials Win Last-Second Thriller Over La Salle

Philadelphia, Pa. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse scored its' second win of the season in a 12-11 thriller over La Salle. Jessica Karwacki scored with one second remaining to propel the Colonials to victory.

The Explorers shot out to a 3-0 advantage before the Colonials battled back. Brittany Byerly continued her hot scoring streak, following up a six-goal performance against St. Bonaventure with a four-goal effort at La Salle. Katie Breeze netted a hat trick with the third goal coming during a man up opportunity with 3:44 remaining to knot the game at 11.

The Colonials and Explorers wered tied 5-5 at halftime. Three of Byerly's goals came in the second half, including a man up goal to tie the game at ten. The Explorers answered with Brittany Edwards' fifth goal of the game to give La Salle an 11-10 lead, but Robert Morris had the final say. Breeze notched the game-tying goal for the hat trick. Karwacki was fouled with one second remaining and was awarded the free position shot and she scored to give the Colonials the victory.

Dana Davis scored a pair of goals and picked up an assist for her fourth multi-point game of the year. Emily Jamison also scored a goal, while Corey Karwacki notched a goal and two assists.

Shots on goal were 20-13 in RMU's favor. The Colonials won the turnover battle by an 18-14 margin, clearing 11 of 12 attempts and picking up 12 ground balls. Becky Schoenecker made her first appearance of the season in goal, playing the final 16:01 making one save and recording the win.

The Colonials (2-3) are back on the road Saturday for a noon contest at Campbell University.
