Trio of Hat Tricks Power Colonials Past Hornets

Moon Township, Pa.  –  Robert Morris University women's lacrosse closes non-conference play with an 18-4 victory over Delaware State.

Three Colonials scored hat tricks, with Katie Breeze, Corey Karwacki and Jessica Karwacki each notching three goals. A total of ten Robert Morris players recorded goals with 22 of the team's 37 shots landing on goal. The Colonials defense performed just as strong with eleven caused turnovers and the team picked up thirteen ground balls.

The first three goals of the game were from Jessica Karwacki, Corey Karwacki and Katie Breeze. The first goal by Breeze came with an assist to Brittany Byerly who caused a turnover by picking off a pass and tossing the ball upfield to Breeze who buried the goal at the 25:02 mark.

On a similar play less than 90 seconds later, Byerly was looking to take the ball away from a Delaware State player and came down awkwardly on her foot. Byerly left the game with the injury and play was delayed until she left the field. Corey Karwacki scored on that play to give the Colonials a 4-0 lead at the 23:38 mark.

When play resumed, the offensive outburst continued. Corey Karwacki bounced a shot in to complete the hat trick with less than eight minutes off the clock. Dana Davis and Emily Jamison each scored before Breeze completed her hat trick with back-to-back scores including a man-up goal. Jessica Karwacki then went back-to-back to finish off her hat trick.

Robert Morris led 14-1 at halftime and rounded out the game's scoring with goals by freshmen Maggie Stella, Kerri Sayrafe, Dominique Zigo, and a pair of career firsts for Madalyn Trapp and Megan Wolfgang.

Robert Morris (4-5) opens Northeastern Conference play next weekend, as LIU Brooklyn comes to town for a 3:00pm game Friday. The Colonials finish the weekend at home against Sacred Heart at 1:00pm.
