Robert Morris Faces CCSU, Bryant on the Road

Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse hits the road for a two-game weekend at Central Connecticut State on Friday and Bryant on Sunday. The Colonials are 6-5 overall with a 2-0 Northeast Conference record.

LAST TIME OUT
The Colonials opened the NEC season 2-0 with a 13-9 win over LIU Brooklyn and a 6-5 victory over Sacred Heart.  Jessica Karwacki paced the Robert Morris offense with seven goals and 14 draw controls, earning NEC co-player of the week honors.  Senior Emily Jamison scored the game-winning goal with 49 seconds remaining to seal the win over the Pioneers, one of two goals on the weekend for the Pittsburgh native. Freshman Maggie Stella posted three goals over the weekend. Dana Davis notched three goals as well and now holds the Colonials points lead with 25. Sarah Arnold picked up both wins in net, making clutch saves in the second half against Sacred Heart. 

SCOUTING CENTRAL CONNECTICUT
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped to 0-2 in Northeast Conference play with a narrow 11-9 loss at Mount St. Mary's last Sunday.  Senior Falynn McCartney scored three times and classmate Madison Hughes added two goals and two assists in the loss. Goalkeeper Steph Rurkowski made 13 saves in the loss. CCSU is now 1-10 overall.

The Blue Devils average 5.91 goals per game while allowing 10.73 goals per game.

Hughes leads the way with 26 points on 16 goals and 10 assists, five of those goals coming on free position shots. McCartney has 13 goals while Marissa Soto has 10. Kylie Sullivan is the other double-digit scorer with 13 points on 5 goals and 8 assists.

SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs were picked to win the NEC and have lived up to that billing so far with an 8-3 overall record and 2-0 mark in conference play. Bryant is on a six-game winning streak heading into the weekend. Bryant hosts Saint Francis on Friday prior to Sunday's game with the Colonials

Bryant averages 10.82 goals and 25.3 shots per game with a 42.8 shooting percentage. 

The Bulldogs are led in scoring by Nicole Britton who has 34 points on 15 goals and 19 assists. Lauren Descalzo leads the team in goals with 22. Both Catlin Brown and Jess DeMeo have scored at least 20 points this season.

STRONG DEFENSE
As a team this season, the Colonials rank 27th in the NCAA in caused turnovers and second in the NEC averaging 9.64 per game.  The Colonials are also 2nd in the NEC with a scoring defense of 9.64

(GROUND) BALL SO HARD
Dana Davis is second in the NEC and 13th in the nation in ground balls per game, averaging 3.44. Davis is also third in the NEC in caused turnovers, averaging 1.55 per game, 46th in the NCAA.

FREE POSITION FIREPOWER
Jessica Karwacki is second in the NEC and 19th in the NCAA in free position percentage, scoring on 7 of 12 shots for .583 percent

WINNING WAYS
The Class of 2015 seniors departed with 36 wins to their credit, the winningest class in program history. The Class of 2016 has been a part of 34 victories thus far, needing 2 more wins this season to tie that record.

Dana Davis, Corey Karwacki, Kerri Sayrafe and Brittany Byerly (twice) have each scored five points in a game so far this season for the Colonials.
