Colonials Win Streak Halted in Loss at CCSU

New Britain, Ct. – A slow start halts the Colonials winning streak at four games as Robert Morris University women's lacrosse falls at Central Connecticut State University 11-8 on Friday afternoon.

The Blue Devils scored five consecutive goals to start the game, holding Robert Morris off the board until the 17:25 mark of the first half. Jessica Karwacki made a nice play to get the ball to Emily Jamison who scored her 18th goal of the season to make it a 5-1 game. Central Connecticut added another pair of goals before Corey Karwacki put the Colonials back on the board with her 15th of the year with 6:24 left in the first. RMU gave up another pair of Blue Devils goals and trailed 9-2 heading into the halftime break.

Maggie Stella scored a free position goal 5:12 into the second half. Corey Karwacki follows up with an unassisted goal twenty-three seconds later to pull the Colonials within five. Kylie Sullivan put Central Connecticut back up by six on a free position goal with 19:25 remaining.

In a stretch of nine minutes and four seconds, the Colonials scored four goals to pull climb within two tallies of tying the game. Jessica Karwacki once again dished a nice feed to Jamison who fired home her second of the game with 15:00 remaining. Karwacki scored her first goal of the game less than two minutes later on a pretty weave to the net and she'd finish the game with a goal and two assists.

Stella found the back of the goal 34 seconds later, finishing a hard-nosed drive to the net with her second of the game. Alexis Rusnak earned a free position shot with a foul called on goalkeeper Kelsey Murphy and Rusnak was able to run to the net clean and toss in her first goal of the season to make it a 10-8 game.

But Robert Morris would get no closer. Central Connecticut had man up opportunities throughout the final minutes and chipped in one more goal in the final seconds to seal the 11-8 win.

The Colonials defense was sound as RMU outscored CCSU 6-2 in the second half, but it was not enough to erase the 9-2 halftime deficit. RMU led the Blue Devils in shots 19-15, shots on goal 13-12, ground balls 14-12 and caused seven turnovers to CCSU's four. Goalkeepers Sarah Arnold and Becky Schoenecker split time in net.

Robert Morris (6-6, 2-1 NEC) heads to Rhode Island to face the Bryant Bulldogs on Sunday at 12:00pm.
