Moon Township, Pa. – The
Robert Morris University women's soccer team struck twice in the first half to tame the Howard Bison, 2-0, at North Athletic Complex Thursday afternoon. It was the second consecutive win and shutout for the Colonials who improve to 2-6 this season.
The Colonials pressured early and often before breaking through in the 19th minute.
Kasia Bak forced a turnover in the offensive third and the ball ended up on the foot of
Jane Schleicher. The sophomore then carried through a herd of Bison defenders before slotting her second goal of the season from the top of the penalty box.
RMU struck again just 2:50 later with Bak setting the plate once again. It all started from the midfield with
Erin Ritzer sending the ball ahead to Bak. Using her left foot, she one touched a curling pass into the box where
Greer Monahan chipped her shot inside the right post for a 2-0 lead.
In between those two Colonials markers,
Makenzie Shearson made her best save of the game, tipping a header by Makela Davidson over the crossbar. It was one of six saves in the game for Shearson who hasn't allowed a goal in 202:06.
Robert Morris held a 22-15 advantage in shots, forcing the Bison to make 13 saves. Mackenzie Diotte, who started and was saddled with the loss, made eight saves in the first 45 minutes. Gabrielle Emilien made four second half saves and the Bison defense was credited with another.
The Colonials start their second four-match road trip of the season when they travel to Northern Kentucky Sunday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is slated for 1:00 p.m.
