Robinson's Two Scores Fuel RMU Win Over Malone

Moon Township, Pa. – Sophomore Warren Robinson scored a pair of touchdowns and set a school record to help the Robert Morris University football team to a 21-19 win over Malone University at Joe Walton Stadium Saturday night. The victory is the first of the season for an RMU team that improves to 1-3 while the Pioneers slip to 1-3.

Robinson had a school-record 123 punt return yards, including an 81-yard return for a touchdown. He  surpasses the previous mark of 112 set by Mario Hines in 2006. The sophomore also had an eight-yard receiving touchdown.

Dante Satcher led an RMU rushing attack that rolled up 140 yards on 33 carries. He hauled the rock 20 times for 88 yards. He also returned two kickoffs for a total of 63 yards for 151 all-purpose yards. Malik Wells added the first rushing TD of his career on a six-yard scamper as he totaled 21 yards on four totes.

Andrew Romanchak got the start and went 8-of-9 for 68 yards passing. Mathew Barr saw his first action of the season and competed 5-of-13 for 24 yards and a score. Tim Vecchio was their favorite target as he hauled in eight passes for 64 yards.

After a promising opening drive that ended in a missed field goal, the Colonials were able to get on the board with their second possession. Vecchio started the drive by a taking a short pass from Romanchak, beating his defender and rumbling 24 yards. Trey Edwards then took an end around the right side for 16 yards. Wells capped off the six-play, 55-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown run.

Malone answered with a 26-yard field goal by Marcus Moeller five minutes into the second quarter. On the ensuing possession, RMU would grind out a 12-play, 75-yard drive that last 6:28. Satcher carried 32 yards on the possession with Barr adding another 20 yards on the ground. It culminated with Barr slinging an eight-yard pass to Robinson in the endzone to make it 14-3.

The Pioneers took over with 1:06 left in the half and John Iacucci hit Matt Blasiole twice for 16 yards each time to move to the RMU 43. Iacucci then floated a pass down the left sideline to Ashton Dulin, who finished with seven catches for 123 yards, that went for 25 yards. A seven-yard scramble from the Malone quarterback set up a 29-yard field goal for Moeller to put the halftime score at 14-6, Robert Morris.

A sack by Gee Stanley on Malone's opening drive of the second half for the Pioneers to punt. Robinson took the 49 yard boot at his own 19, started right, cut up the middle and was gone 81 yards to put the Colonials ahead, 21-6. The return was the second-longest in team history and gives him three of the four longest punt returns in the team's record book.

A fumble by Wells was recovered by Malone on the Colonials 25 to set up the Pioneers score. Two plays after the turnover, Iacucci hit Matt Blasiole with a screen pass that turned into a touchdown and cut the Coloinals lead to eight points.

Taking possession at the Robert Morris 47 with 4:02, Malone methodically moved the ball down the field. It started with a 16-yard run by Iacucci followed a 14-yard completion to the 17. They would eventually get the ball to the two-yard line, facing fourth-and-goal with 31 seconds to play. Iacucci made it interesting as he hooked up with Dulin for two yards in the right corner of the endzone to make it a two-point game. Forced to try the two-point coversion, Dulin came down out of the back of the endzone on the try and the ensuing onside kick went out of play giving RMU the victory.

Iacucci finished 19-32 for 256 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Blasiole rushed 13 times for 32 yards.

Joseph Uhatafe led the defensive effort with nine tackles and a forced fumble. Drew Allen had an interception to go with six tackles. Zach Cooper had 1.5 sacks and Stanley and Ryan Lewis had one each for a defense that had four sacks.

The Colonials return to the field Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Liberty for a 7:00 p.m. game.
