Colonials, Bulldogs Battle to 1-1 Draw

Bayley Winkel tallied his team-high eighth goal of the season, earning Robert Morris a point in the NEC table

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 1-1 draw against Bryant this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) action from the North Athletic Complex.

Robert Morris (2-7-3, 1-0-1 NEC) has now earned two victories and a pair of draws after opening the season with six straight losses. The Colonials held a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal, although Bryant (1-7-2, 1-0-1 NEC) generated 15 attempts to the hosts' 13.

While the visitors held an advantage in possession over the opening 45 minutes, only two of their shots found their way to Winter Fondi. Fondi easily dispatched of both, keeping the match scoreless into the halftime break.

Thanks to a familiar connection, RMU picked up the game's first goal in the 52nd minute. Keane McIvor played a ball over the top, catching Bayley Winkel in stride. Winkel then slipped past Bulldog goalkeeper Nick Stewart before burying the ball into an open net for his eighth goal of the season.

The Colonials continued to build momentum after Winkel's goal, forcing Stewart into two saves over the next 10 minutes. The match then seemed to slow down, until John Amaya was brought on for Anthony Barreria before a Bryant corner kick.

Amaya made an immediate impact for the Bulldogs, as he flicked in a header just 36 seconds after entering the match to equalize in the 72nd minute.

Both teams had their opportunities in the closing moments of regulation, but neither could find a winner.

RMU had an early chance in the second overtime as McIvor played a cross into the box, but Winkel's header skirted wide of the netting. Bryant then earned a free kick just outside the 18, but George Gill's attempt flew high and wide of the post.

With a minute remaining, Jake Cooper skipped a through ball to a racing Roald Aas Ravlum, but the freshman's shot was deflected away by Stewart.

Fondi made four saves on the afternoon. Sherman led the Colonials with three shot attempts.

Robert Morris closes its weekend at home on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson.
