Brooklyn, N.Y. – A brace from Kristina Kelley and Sydney Bruckner's first career clean sheet lifted the Robert Morris University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at LIU Brooklyn this afternoon in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.
This is Robert Morris' (3-10-0, 1-3-0 NEC) fourth consecutive victory over LIU Brooklyn (3-8-2, 1-2-1 NEC) and seventh overall against the Blackbirds.
Kelley's two-goal day makes her the second Colonial to notch a brace this season as Jane Schleicher accomplished the feat in a 3-2 victory at Howard on Sept. 3.
The sophomore midfielder's first tally came in the 20th minute as Kasia Bak played a long lead pass to the left front of the net, giving Kelley just enough space to tape it past LIU Brooklyn goalkeeper Aline Allmann.
A handball in the box earned the Colonials a penalty kick in the 65th minute. Kelley calmly buried the attempt for her second goal of the evening and team-high sixth of the season.
Bruckner was tested almost immediately after RMU's second tally as the freshman came up big on Marian Awad. She then made a pair of saves in the 70th and 74th minutes on Josie Watson and Maddie Shockley, before preserving the shutout with another stop on Award with five seconds remaining.
Bruckner tied her career best with eight saves, matching her debut performance at Ohio on Aug. 18.
Robert Morris completes a three-match road swing on Sunday, Oct. 15 at noon against Central Connecticut.
