Robert Morris Returns to the Road at RIT

Pittsburgh, Pa. - After playing five of its last six games on home ice, the Robert Morris University men's hockey team (3-5-1, 3-3-1 AHC) is back on the road this weekend at RIT (4-3-1, 3-1-0 AHC) for an Atlantic Hockey conference series.

Robert Morris earned three of four conference points with a tie and win over Holy Cross. RMU traded punches with the Crusaders in Friday's game, with five different Colonials scoring goals in a 5-5 tie. 

Francis Marotte and the defense earned RMU its first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory, snapping a four-game winless streak.  Luke Lynch (2G, 1A) Spencer Dorowicz (1G, 2A), Matthew Graham (1G, 2A) and Michael Louria (3A) all tallied three-point weekends.

STANDINGS

Robert Morris is tied (with Holy Cross) for third in the Atlantic Hockey conference standings with 7 points. RIT is one spot back, tied (with Canisius) for fifth with six points.

ALL-TIME SERIES vs. RIT

Robert Morris leads the all-time series with RIT 12-9-4. The Colonials and Tigers split the four meetings between the schools last season, each winning a home and road contest. Those two wins are two of just three vs. RIT since the start of the 2015-16 season.

LYNCH LIGHTS IT UP

Sophomore forward Luke Lynch has been lighting the lamp to the tune of seven goals in nine games and is RMU's goals leader.

POWER UP

Brady Ferguson leads the Colonials in power play scoring with all but two of his points coming on the man advantage. The senior forward has three goals and three assists on the power play (4G-4A-8P overall). Ferguson has also scored a shorthanded goal.

LONE STAR LEADER
Brady Ferguson is the NCAA's active career scoring leader. After posting the fifth-highest scoring NCAA men's hockey season in 2016-17 with 58 points, Ferguson is the lone returner out of that Top 5. The Carrollton, Texas native has four goals and four assists for eight points in nine games so far this season.

PACEMAKERS
Luke Lynch & Michael Louria are tied for the team scoring lead with nine points apiece. Louria is scoring at a point per game pace and has recorded at least a point in all but one contest this season. Louria was held off the scoresheet in the Oct. 27 game at Ohio State. Lynch is also scoring at a point per game pace and has gone just two games without a point (at Canisius 10/14, vs. OSU 10/28).

O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU
Robert Morris fans should take note of Tigers forward Abbott Girduckis. His brother Aidan Girduckis has signed a letter of intent to play for the Colonials next season. Aidan is a 6'4" defenseman playing for the Carleton Place Canadians in the CCHL where he won a league title last season. Aidan has 4 goals and 10 assists in 22 games played this season. Aidan also played for Team Canada East U19's at the World Junior A Challenge.

ON THE PLUS SIDE

Lynch has the highest plus/minus rating on the squad with a plus-6. The sophomore forward has been on the ice for the highest number of goals for (8), tied with senior defenseman Elias Ghantous, who is a plus-3. Matthew Graham is second with a plus-4.

BLOCK PARTY
Senior defenseman Alex Bontje is second in Atlantic Hockey with 21 blocked shots at a rate of 2.33 blocks per game (T-10th in NCAA)

FIRST THINGS FIRST

Robert Morris has scored forty-percent of its goals in the first period, with ten first frame strikes. RMU has scored nine in the second and just six in the third.

GO AHEAD AND COME BACK

The Colonials have scored 17 of their 25 goals while either tied or trailing in a game, adding to a lead just eight times.

SHOOT YOUR SHOT

Luke Lynch is ranked 7th in the NCAA in shooting percentage at .350 (7 goals, 20 shots on goal).

RMU's penalty killers are coming off a perfect performance in the 3-0 win over Holy Cross, going 4-for-4 to improve to 82.2%

SHUTOUT SHOW

Francis Marotte recorded his third career shutout in the 3-0 win over Holy Cross, tying him for fourth all-time at RMU with Christian Bounce and Brooks Ostergard. The all-time record is eight, held by 2016 graduate Terry Shafer (2. Dalton Izyk, 6; 3. Eric Levine, 5).

 RIT TIGERS NOTES 

LAST TIME OUT

The Tigers split a pair of home contests against American International last weekend, earning a 5-3 win on Friday, falling 3-2 in overtime Saturday. On Friday, five different players scored. Gabe Valenzuela and Abbott Girduckis had a goal and an assist apiece, while Matt Abt, Alden Dupuis and Dan Willett also scored.

Logan Drackett earned his third straight win between the pipes, stopping 27 shots on Friday. Saturday, Valenzuela scored both RIT goals, while Willett had two assists. Drackett made 25 saves to end his winning streak.

STREAKING TIGERS 

Abbott Girduckis is riding a five-game point-scoring streak, with 10 points (3-7-10) during that stretch. He leads the team in scoring and is second in scoring in Atlantic Hockey with 11 points.

Myles Powell has an assist in five consecutive contests, totaling eight over that span. Powell is tied for 12th in scoring in Atlantic Hockey with 10 points. Dan Willett has five points (1-4-5) over a four-game point-scoring streak.
