Robillard Scores Overtime Game-Winner on Senior Night

Pittsburgh, Pa. - A storybook ending for the Colonials seniors was in the cards Saturday night as senior winger Ben Robillard scored the game-winning goal to send the Robert Morris University men's hockey team to a 3-2 overtime win over Mercyhurst on Senior Night.

With 1:56 remaining in overtime, Robillard raced up the ice after taking a feed from Brandon Watt and snuck the puck under the pads of Brandon Wildung to give RMU the 3-2 overtime victory.

Mercyhurst took the first lead of the game on a Jack Riley power play goal with just over five minutes remaining in the first period. Robert Morris tied it up with a goal by Daniel Mantenuto in the second period, assisted by Timmy Moore and Luke Lynch, 6:33 into the frame. The Lakers would strike back before the end of the second with a goal by Taylor Best and take a 2-1 lead into the break. Robert Morris outshot the Lakers 15-7 in the second and held a 28-17 shots on goal advantage heading into the third period.

The Colonials power play went to work in the third and cashed in on its second goal on the man advantage in the weekend series. Moore put home his 14th goal of the season, assisted by Daniel Leavens and Brady Ferguson.

Senior Dalton Izyk made 26 saves and was quick with the glove in the third period against the Lakers attack.

The Colonials offense piled on the shot attempts 81-43 but Mercyhurst blocked 22 shots to hold RMU at bay for much of the night.

Up next, the Colonials (17-11-4, 13-10-3 AHC) travel to Niagara to face the Purple Eagles on Saturday, February 25, before returning to Pittsburgh to play Niagara in the final game of the regular season outdoors at Heinz Field, Sunday, February 26 at 7:05pm. Admission to the outdoor game is free and gates open at 6:00pm.
