Box Score Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse scores its first win of the season in the home opener with a 21-6 victory over Central Michigan at Joe Walton Stadium on Saturday.
Freshmen
Mackenzie Gandy and
Annie Sachs stole the show as Gandy lit up the scoreboard for five goals and two assists for a seven point performance, while Sachs posted four goals and two assists for six points. Both contributed defensively with Sachs nabbing five ground balls and causing five turnovers, while Gandy collected three ground balls.Â
Rookie
Katelyn Miller held down the back end of the lopsided win making 8 saves in another stellar outing, picking up her first career win. The Colonials used 22 caused turnovers to keep the Chippewas at bay, holding CMU to just six goals, only one in the second half.Â
Sophomores
Maggie Stella and
Kerri Sayrafe each recorded hat tricks in the contest, also contributing on defense. Stella won three draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers while Sayrafe collected three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Katie Breeze and
Meghan Crouse each chipped in two goals.
Robert Morris won the ground game with a 31-27 advantage in ground balls, and caused 22 turnovers while CMU only caused four.
Nine Colonials players recorded at least a point in the 21-6 win.
Up next, the Robert Morris homestand continues when the Colonials (1-2 overall, 0-0 NEC) welcome St. Mary's on Friday at 4:00pm at Joe Walton Stadium.
