Home and Road Games on Colonials Weekend Slate

RMU hosts St. Mary's Friday, Visits Yale Sunday

Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University women's lacrosse will play two this weekend, starting with a home contest against St. Mary's on Friday, before traveling to visit Yale University on Sunday. The Colonials (1-2, 0-0 NEC) are coming off their first win of the season, 21-6 over Central Michigan.

LAST TIME OUT
Robert Morris picked up a 21-6 victory over Central Michigan, thanks in part to stellar efforts from a trio of Colonials freshman. Midfielders Mackenzie Gandy and Annie Sachs were dominant on offense, with Gandy scoring five goals and two assists, while Sachs tallied four goals and two assists, posting five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Rookie Katelyn Miller picked up her first win in goal, making eight saves in her third career start. Sophomores Maggie Stella and Kerri Sayrafe each tallied hat tricks with Stella picking up three draw controls, while Katie Breeze and Meghan Crouse each scored a pair. Dana Davis and Melanie Gandy chipped in a goal apiece. Davis snagged five ground balls and earned five draw controls as well.



SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
St. Mary's (0-2)
The Gaels are coming off a pair of lopsided losses to #4 USC (20-2) and Stanford (22-5). St. Mary's holds a 30.4 shooting percentage with a 73.9 shots on goal percentage, with 26 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers, in their first two games played. Jocelyn Lubert leads the Gaels in scoring with three goals, Meagan Bennett coming in second with two. Jillian Dunlap and Claire Healy each have a goal for the Gaels. Molly Kuptz leads the way defensively with six ground balls and six caused turnovers, Katie Kuptz next with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Sydney Pinello has started both games in goal, playing the first half of each contest before Cassidy Hoffman finished off the second half of both games. 

Yale (1-1)
The Bulldogs enter the weekend with Robert Morris after a 13-11 loss to Albany to open the season, followed by a 21-3 win over Quinnipiac. Yale is averaging 26.5 shots per game with a 60.4 shooting percentage and an 84.5 shots on goal percentage. The Bulldogs have averaged 14.5 draw controls per game, collecting 31 ground balls and causing 13 turnovers over their first two games. Hope Hanley is the Bulldogs leading scorer with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. Hanley has a perfect 7-for-7 shooting percentage. Tess McEvoy and Izzy Nixon each have five goals on the season. Goalkeeper Sydney Marks has made both starts (1-1), playing 90:00 and allowing 15 goals against, with a 10.00 GAA and making 11 saves with a 42.3 save percentage.

NEC HONORS
Midfielder Annie Sachs earns Rookie of the Week laurels and goalkeeper Katelyn Miller takes home Defensive Player of the Week honors. Miller has anchored the Robert Morris defense over the first three games of her collegiate career, posting an 8.67 GAA and .500 save percentage in contests against Bucknell, No. 18 Louisville and Central Michigan. Sachs leads the Colonials in scoring, with 14 points over the first three games of her career. She recorded eight goals, six assists, nine ground balls and nine caused turnovers in three contests. 

FIERCE FRESHMEN
Freshmen have led the Colonials in scoring in each of RMU's first three contests. In the opening game against Bucknell, Sachs posted two goals and four assists in an 11-10 loss to Bucknell. She followed with two goals in a 9-4 loss to #18 Louisville, and added four goals and two assists in a 21-6 victory over visiting Central Michigan on Saturday. Sachs was only second in scoring for RMU on one occasion, when Mackenzie Gandy took that title in the win over CMU, scoring five goals and two assists.

CAUSING A RUCKUS
Robert Morris is ranked first in the NCAA in caused turnovers per game with a 19.33 average. The Colonials have 58 caused turnovers in three games played, with the second highest total of caused turnovers, behind only Notre Dame's 69 caused turnovers in five games played (7th, 13.80/pg). RMU has also bee solid in ground balls, ranked 7th in ground balls per game with 24.67. 

SHOWSTOPPING
The rookie Miller has recorded 26 saves in her three outings. Miller posted seven saves at Bucknell, and made 11 saves, allowing just nine goals in the Colonials loss to a ranked Louisville team. Miller also stopped eight shots in Saturday's 21-6 win over CMU. She's added eight ground balls in the three outings.

UP NEXT
Following this weekend's games, Robert Morris will return home for a March 4th contest against Detroit, at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa. at 1:00pm.
