Two Colonials earned hat tricks as junior midfielder
Dana Davis and freshman midfielder
Annie Sachs both lit up the scoreboard in the victory.
Katelyn Miller was once again a force in goal, making 11 saves, eight coming in a very hard-fought second half.
The Colonials struck quickly with Davis firing home her ninth goal of the season, assisted by Sachs, to give RMU a 1-0 lead. Robert Morris extended the lead to two with a fast-moving play started by
Katie Breeze sprinting up the field and passing to
Alexis Rusnak who buried the shot for her second goal of the year.
The Flames tallied two goals to tie the game before RMU scored three straight to regain the lead. Sachs picked up her first of the game off a pass by Rusnak to make it 3-2 RMU, before Sachs scored her second of the game on a free position shot less than four minutes later.
Maggie Stella pushed the lead to three with a free position goal, her 14th of the season, putting the Colonials up 5-2.
Liberty scored but Stella made it a three-goal lead again 37 seconds later with her 15th of the season. Â Liberty scored back to back goal a minute apart to close the gap to just one.
Shannon Lynch scored her second of the goal of the season to put RMU ahead 7-5. RMU and Liberty traded goals to end the half, Davis putting up her second of the game to give the Colonials an 8-6 game at half.
The Flames scored first in the second half but could never catch up with the Colonials. Sachs completed the hat trick for her 20th goal of the season, before
Meghan Crouse and Breeze put RMU up 11-7. Two more goals for Liberty kept the game tight with ten minutes remaining, but Davis completed her hat trick with 8:11 to play and Breeze finished the scoring off with a snipe for her second of the game, giving the Colonials the 13-10 victory.
Liberty held a slight edge in several team categories but Robert Morris led where it mattered. RMU collected 23 ground balls, won 11 draw controls and caused 11 turnovers,Â
Davis had a spectacular all-around game, with three goals, eight ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls. Sachs had four points with three goals and an assist, while picking up two ground balls, two draw controls and one caused turnover. Breeze posted two goals, an assist, picked up two ground balls and caused a turnover.
Stella also had a multipoint game with two goals, while causing a turnover and earning a draw control. Rusnak had a goal and an assist plus a ground ball and caused turnover, while Lynch also had a goal and assist, picking up a ground ball, caused turnover and a draw control.
Megan Wolfgang led the defense with a pair of ground balls and caused turnovers. Crouse added two ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control to her goal.
Kerri Sayrafe also earned two draw controls while
Kendall Noel collected two ground balls. The goalkeeper Miller also recovered two ground balls.Â
Next up, the Colonials (4-4) travel to face St. Bonaventure in Olean, N.Y. this Sunday, March 19 at 1:00pm.Â
