Colonials Win Streak Halted by Hoyas

RMU drops a 12-7 decision to Georgetown

Washington, D.C. – The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team saw its four-game win streak halted by the Hoyas of Georgetown in a 12-7 loss Tuesday evening in Washington, D.C.
 
Eight different Colonials (4-2) recorded a point in the loss. Sophomore midfield Tyson Gibson tabbed his fifth multi-point effort in six games with two goals and an assist to match his career-best three points. Junior midfield Carter Yepsen matched his season-high point production with one goal and one assist. Junior midfield Sean Doyle, redshirt sophomore attack Matt Schmidt, freshman attack Ryan Smith and junior attack Adrian Torok-Orban all scored one goal apiece.
 
Sophomore long stick midfield Jack Toomb collected four ground balls and caused two turnovers. Junior long stick midfield Zachary Bryant also recorded four ground balls. Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Heger made 13 saves and allowed 11 goals.
 
The Colonials outscored the Hoyas (1-4) in the second half, 4-3, and in the fourth quarter, 2-1, but the Hoyas amassed a 9-3 lead in the first half that RMU could not overcome. Georgetown outshot RMU in the first half, 22-16.
 
From two seconds left in the first quarter to 12:49 in the third, Georgetown used a 7-1 run to take a significant, 10-3 lead, the Hoyas largest advantage of the game.
 
The Hoyas offense got rolling in the second, as Georgetown outscored Robert Morris, 5-1, to end the first half with a 9-3 edge.
 
Georgetown opened the scoring in the first, and Robert Morris responded with a goal from Doyle to tie it up, but the Hoyas used a 3-1 run to close the quarter with a 4-2 lead.
 
GU picked up 31 ground balls to RMU's 28, and won the battle in the faceoff X, 16 to seven.
 
RMU returns home to complete its packed schedule of three games in seven days, as the Colonials host Marquette on Saturday, March 11 at noon in Joe Walton Stadium.

Schedule Notes
For the first time since 2012, the Colonials will play a game under the lights of Joe Walton Stadium, when they host Canisius on Tues., April 18 at 7 p.m. in a non-conference, evening clash. Men's and women's lacrosse will also compete in a doubleheader on Sat., March 25. The men's team will open the day with a 1 p.m. faceoff with Mount St. Mary's, and the women's squad will host crosstown rival Duquesne at 4 p.m.
