Bats Come Alive in Sweep of Saint Peter's

RMU pounds out 27 hits, three homers and a .409 average.

Jersey City, N.J. – The Robert Morris University softball team pounded out 27 hits in a doubleheader sweep, 12-7 and 8-3, of Saint Peter's at Jaroschak Field in Jersey City Friday afternoon. The Colonials hit .409 as a team to improve to 15-27 with the pair of non-conference wins.

Jordan Gurganus collected six hits in nine at-bats while Olivia Lorusso went 5-of-6 with a homer, four runs batted in and five runs scored. Natalie Higgins collected three extra-base hits among her four on the day, including a dinger and a team-high five RBI.

Taylor Bartlow hit her first career home run in game two, one of two hits on the day for the sophomore. Abrielle McCartney and Kristen Pray had three hits apiece.

Madison Riggle earned the win in game one to run her season mark to 5-8. The rookie went six innings allowing seven runs and nine hits. Laura Coulter came on in the seventh and struck one in a perfect inning of relief.

The Colonials got to work immediately scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by Higgins two-run homer. RMU added three runs in the third, a single score in the fourth and a four more in the seventh inning. Lorusso and Higgins homered in the game Gurganus and McCartney both hit three baggers.

Coulter went six innings and earned the victory in the 8-3 nightcap victory. The Australian-born sophomore allowed just three hits and only gave up three earned runs while striking out six. Coulter improves to 4-12 with the result.

Gurganus, Lorusso, McCartney and Higgins all had multi-hit efforts in the game. Again, the Colonials put up a four-run first and never looked back.
