Season Ends With 4-2 Loss to Sacred Heart

Loretto, Pa. – The Robert Morris University softball team saw its season come to an end with a 4-2 loss to Sacred Heart on day two of the 2017 Northeast Conference Tournament Friday at Red Flash Field in Loretto, Pa. The Colonials finish the season 19-33 overall.

Taylor Bartlow went 2-for-3 in the elimination game with a double, giving her four hits in the tournament and earning her a spot on the all-tournament team. Natalie Higgins and Briana Bunner also recorded doubles Friday.

Robert Morris got on the board in the first, manufacturing a run after Jordan Gurganus led off the frame with a single. Stacey Capp bunted her to second and Higgins drove her in with a double over the right fielder's head. Bartlow put the Colonials on top, 2-0, in the third inning with a two-out double just inside the left field line that brought home Abrielle McCartney who had singled earlier in the frame.

Sacred Heart responded in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs without knocking a ball out of the infield. Ellzy walked the bases loaded before Victoria D'Addario plated one run with an infield single. Fallon Bevino then sent a soft hit up the middle that Capp knocked down and tried to get the out at second. The toss was late and that allowed Katelyn Christian and Lauren Delgadillo to both score and put the Pioneers ahead, 3-2.

RMU had a chance to tie or go ahead in the top of the sixth after Bartlow singled and Bunner doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Sacred Heart went to the pen, however, and got a pair of strikeouts from Jamie Carlson to end the threat. The Pioneers then added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning before setting the Colonials down in order in the seventh.
