RMU Falls to Milwaukee in Home Opener, 2-0

A pair of first half goals pushed the Panthers over the Colonials this afternoon

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University women's soccer team fell in its 2017 home opener this afternoon as visiting Milwaukee bested the Colonials by a 2-0 score from the North Athletic Complex.

Robert Morris (0-2-0, 0-0-0 NEC) nearly matched Milwaukee (1-0-1, 0-0-0 Horizon League) in shots on goal at 5-4, but the visiting Panthers made the most of their opportunities in the first half.

Anna Smalley tallied the first goal in the 10th minute with a shot into the upper left corner. Milwaukee then doubled its lead 15 minutes later when Mackenzie Schill buried a left-footed shot into the netting.

The Colonials' best scoring chance came in the 75th minute when Taylor Burkley ripped a shot that was tipped off the crossbar by Panthers goalkeeper Mallory Geurts. Kasia Bak then gathered the ricochet and tried to slot it past Guerts, but she was able to make another save.

Julia Schmid made three saves in her first career start at RMU. Sydney Bruckner took over in the second half, but didn't see a shot on goal.

Robert Morris hits the road for its next contest on Friday, Aug. 25 when it faces Central Michigan.
