Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's hockey team wasted little time picking up where it left off a season ago. The NCAA's active career scoring leader
Brady Ferguson fired the puck into the net just 14 seconds into the game and the Colonials never trailed, skating away with a 5-1 exhibition victory over visiting Canadian school University of Ottawa.
Ferguson's goal to make it 1-0, assisted by
Eric Israel and
Alex Tonge, lasted through the first period of play. In the second, the senior forward scored his second of the night on the power play to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead. Tonge picked up his second assist on the goal and
Michael Louria grabbed his first point of the night.
Graduate transfer
Brett Beauvais increased the RMU lead to three with his first unofficial goal in a Colonials uniform. It was a trend that continued later in the game when Louria, a junior transfer, scored his first at RMU. Senior defenseman
Alex Bontje and sophomore forward
Luke Lynch registered assists on Beauvais' tally.

With a 3-0 lead to start the third, Israel made quick work, tossing home the second power play goal of the game 56 seconds into the frame, Louria and Ferguson each picking up an assist. Trailing RMU 4-0, Ottawa was able to take advantage of an extended power play and break up the shutout.
Louria sent home the fifth goal of the night for Robert Morris at 11:03 of the third period, the final tally of the game for either team, wrapping up a 5-1 victory for the Colonials.
RMU used a trio of goaltenders, with
Francis Marotte earning the win, making 11 saves in 28:35 of ice time.
Andrew Pikul entered in the second and made nine saves in 24:57, giving up the lone goal while RMU was a man down. Freshman
Dyllan Lubbesmeyer made a pair of saves, playing the final 5:57 of the game.
The Colonials blocked 14 shots, allowing just 23 shots on goal for the Gee-Gee's. Bontje and Beauvais each had two blocks, while ten other players registered one.
Ferguson recorded a four-point game with two goals and two assists, while Louria posted a goal and two assists. Defensemen Israel and Beauvais each had a goal and an assist and Tonge had a pair of helpers.
The Colonials (RV) open the regular season next Friday, October 6 on the road at Niagara University.
