Geneva, Ohio – The
Robert Morris University track and field team had just three athletes competing in the first day of the SPIRE Division I Invitational on Friday, but all three turned in personal record performances.
Hanne Claus continued with a very impressive freshman campaign as she ran her best time as a collegian in the 200-meter dash. In fact, her time of 24.98 was the fourth fastest time recorded in that event by an RMU athlete and was nearly three-tenths of a second faster than the last time she ran that event. She was 15th in Friday's field.
Kaitlyn Hawkins tried the pole vault for the second time of her freshman campaign and improved upon the results she turned in last week. Hawkins cleared 3.37 meters (11' 0.75") to beat her earlier performance by half an inch.
In the weight throw,
Sam Buck found a quarter-of-an-inch of extra distance on Friday. She launched the implement 16.33 meters, a distance of 53' 7", to claim 11th place and a new PR.
The SPIRE Division I Invitational continues on Saturday.
