Staten Island, N.Y. - The
Robert Morris University softball suffered a pair of Northeast Conference losses Saturday afternoon at Wagner College in Staten Island, N.Y. The losses, 2-0 and 8-2, drop the Colonials mark to 10-32 and 1-11 in the NEC while the Seahawks move to 14-19 and 4-5 in league games.
Â
Natalie Higgins and
Kaitlyn Clark each went 3-for-7 on the afternoon while
Olivia Lorusso and
Abrielle McCartney accounted for two hits each. The lone extra-base hit of the afternoon came off the bat of
Kristen Pray who was 1-for-5 in the set.
Â
Laura Coulter threw a five-hit complete game with a season-high five strikeouts in the opening game. She allowed just two earned runs.
Â
In the opener, Coulter and Wagner starter Morgan Brown were locked in a pitcher's duel. Brown did not allow an RMU batter to advance past second base, striking out four without issuing a walk. Wagner scored the only runs it needed in the sixth. Leadoff hits by Kaila Smith and Maite Reece started the fram. After a sac bunt and a flyout, Amelia Van Orman laced a pinch-hit single into right center scoring the two leadoff hitters.
Â
In the nightcap, singles by Higgins and Clark combined with a pair of walks and two Wagner errors gave Robert Morris a 2-0 lead in the first inning. However, Brown – who threw all 14 innings for the host squad – would not surrender another run the rest of the way. She finished with seven strikeouts in the second game.
Â
Wagner got one run back in the bottom of the first and then scored three unearned and four total in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to hold on for an 8-2 victory.

Robert Morris plays host to NEC leader Saint Francis in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday, May 2, at North Athletic Complex.
