Bulldogs Clip Colonials In Overtime

Rota scores team-high fourth goal of 2019 campaign in first half

Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime to Bryant Friday at the North Athletic Complex.

STRIKING FIRST

Robert Morris grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half off a corner kick. Cristian Palermo placed a perfect ball in the box, with Riccardo Rota redirecting it to the far end of the goal to put the Colonials in front. It marked the team-high fourth goal of the 2019 season for the Bergamo, Italy, native.

TYING IT UP

Bryant (6-3 / 3-0 NEC) tied the game, 1-1, early in the second half. Victor Rey dribbled through a pair of RMU defenders and found Alex DaCosta in the box, who buried the ball in the back of the net to tie the score. The Bulldogs, who held a 15-8 edge in shots, outshot the RMU (3-8-2 / 2-2-1 NEC) in the second half, 9-2.

SETTLING IN
Mike Zolnierczyk provided the Colonials with a spark at keeper, turning away five shots from Bryant. It marked the fourth time in 2019 Zolnierczyk has recorded at least five saves in a contest.

THE GOLDEN GOAL

Headed into overtime, DaCosta came through again for the Bulldogs, picking up the game-winning goal 3:19 into extra time. His game-winning goal ricocheted off Zolnierczyk and helped keep Bryant perfect in league action.
