Moon Township, Pa. – The Robert Morris University softball team concluded its swing through New England Sunday by dropping a pair of games to Bryant at Conaty Park.
The Colonials suffered a 7-4 setback in game one of a doubleheader before dropping the nightcap, 4-1.

// Striking First
Freshman
Ashley Kent singled to center in the second at bat of the game and junior
Natalie Higgins continued her hot hitting, connecting for a double down to left center to drive Kent home and give Robert Morris an early 1-0 advantage. The Bulldogs tied it, 1-1, by scoring a run in the bottom of the third on a pair of hits, but a two-run jack from junior
Briana Bunner gave the Colonials a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
// Bryant Responds
The Bulldogs scored three runs in each of the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to take control, collecting seven hits during the two frames. Jenna Cali had an RBI double in the fourth inning for Bryant, while Gabrielle Ermish provided a two-run double in the fifth.
// The Batter's Box
Higgins finished 3-for-3 for RMU, driving in two while scoring a run. It marked the third time in 2019 she has recorded at least three hits in a game as well as her sixth multi-hit effort of the campaign.
// GAME TWO // @ Bryant // L, 4-1 //
// Bryant Bunches
The Bulldogs continued to score in bunches in the second game of the doubleheader, plating four runs in the first inning en route to the victory. Nicole Zukowski provided an RBI double for Bryant to open the scoring, and that would be all that Colby Norris would need. She scattered five hits in a complete-game effort, striking out four and walking one while allowing just one run.
// The Batter's Box
Robert Morris scored in the top of the fourth inning to trim its deficit to 4-1. Senior
Abrielle McCartney singled to left with one out on a 2-2 pitch, and she came around to score two batters later with an RBI single from Bunner. McCartney extended her hitting streak to eight games with her single in the fourth inning and during that stretch is hitting .370 (10-for-27) with eight runs and five RBI.
