LAST WEEK
Robert Morris rebounded from a physical loss to Liberty on Wednesday with a comeback victory at Bucknell on Saturday. Junior
Mackenzie Gandy piled up six goals and four assists on the week, helping her earn her second consecutive Northeast Conference Player of the Week honor; she has hat tricks in three consecutive games. Classmate
Clio Kerr was named NEC Defensive Player of the Week; she netted a pair of goals, but stood out more in winning the ball back, accumulating six caused turnovers and six ground balls. Junior goalie
Katelyn Miller stopped 26 of 46 shots on the week to keep her save percentage at a robust .550.
HISTORY LESSON
The Colonials' history with George Washington is limited, with just two all-time meetings, both won by the (other) Colonials. However, those games occurred in each of the past two seasons, so the memories are fresh. Last March, GW scored a 9-7 win at the Joe, netting the first three goals and never trailing. Then-juniors
Sophia Eureka and
Shannon Lynch scored two goals apiece, while defender
Kelly Colegrove had a monster outing, converting five ground balls and causing five turnovers.
OPPOSITION RESEARCH
George Washington muddled through a middling 2018 season, following up a 7-1 non-conference record with a 2-7 mark in Atlantic 10 competition. Former national coach of the year Tracey Coyne is in her fifth season in charge of the Colonials, following up stints at Notre Dame, Duquesne (assistant), nearby Washington & Jefferson and Dartmouth (assistant). GW is led in scoring by freshman Tori Hampton, who has nine goals and three assists. The Colonials' lone win to date came against Radford, with losses to California, Longwood and East Carolina mixed in.
WEATHER REPORT
Wednesday's scheduled game featured a predicted high around 20 degrees, hence the postponement. On Saturday in D.C., it's expected to be partly cloudy with highs in the upper 40s.
THEY SAID IT
"They're one of our rivals and it's a big game. Everyone's super-pumped and their energies are high. Everyone's excited to go out there and see what's gonna happen." - Kerr on the matchup with the Dukes
