LAST TIME OUT

The Colonials stayed perfect at home last Saturday against Bucknell, erasing a 6-1 first-half deficit before outscoring the Bison 10-2 over the final 43 minutes of game time to earn the 11-8 victory.

Melanie Gandy paced RMU offensively, recording a team-high three goals and six points.  Mackenzie Gandy, Kelley Flynn, and Emilie Kim all turned in multi-goal efforts of their own as well, while Kelley Colegrove's six ground balls and five caused turnovers earned her Defensive Player of the Week honors from the NEC.

HISTORY LESSON

RMU is 2-0 all-time against Radford in what will be the third straight year of the programs facing off. Mackenzie Gandy scored the OT winner on the first offensive posession of the game to cap off the 13-12 win at Joe Walton last season.

The Colonails are 3-2 all-time against Liberty, however they are winless in their previous two matchups and have not won in Lynchburg since a 9-6 win back in the 2013 campaign.  Mackenzie Gandy posted a hat trick and five points against the Flames last season in a 10-7 loss.

OPPOSITION RESEARCH

Radford stands at 1-5 on the year, with their lone victory coming on opening day to NEC foe Saint Francis Pa. in Loretto.

Despite the five-game losing streak, the Highlanders have faced some quality opponents including #18 Virgina Tech and #12 Richmond.  Senior mid Amanda Paino leads them in scoring with nine points, while Grace Gleason leads in goals with eight.

Meanwhile, the Flames stand at 2-3 on the season, and are coming off of a loss to Richmond last weekend. They are led in attack by junior Attacker Anna Keebler, who has already netted an incredible 22 goals on the season in just five games and boast four players who have already cracked the double-digit points threshold.

WEATHER REPORT

A high of 62 but a chance of storms is expected in Radford Tuesday, while cloudy skies and a high of 53 are on tap for Thursday's showdown in Lynchburg.

THEY SAID IT

"We started off a little slow to the game," head coach Katrina Silva said.  "It was mid-term week, and it definitely showed the first 15 minutes of the game, but a quick timeout where we changed some things, changed some things on defense at halftime, and I thought the real Robert Morris showed up in the second." - Coach Silva on the team's dramatic win over Bucknell.

KNOW BOBBY MO

  • RMU was picked to finish third in the NEC in the preseason coaches' poll, with Wagner (first) and Mount St. Mary's (second) rounded out the top three projected standings.
  • Goalie Miller has started every game for the Colonials since arriving on campus three years ago, a remarkable streak of 57 in a row. She has the best goals-against average (10.18) in the 15-year history of the program and the second-best save percentage (.465). Two weeks ago she passed Kaitlin Pentz '14 for the most ever by an RMU goalkeeper after tying the mark against KSU the previous weekend.
  • Miller and Mackenzie Gandy will both serve as team captains for RMU this season after being chosen by their teammates in the offseason.
  • Robert Morris returns ten players who played in all 17 games last season, including three (Kerr, Colegrove, and Miller) who started all 17.
  • The nine-member senior class is the largest cohort on the team. This group has participated in 32 wins so far at RMU and has never had a losing season.
  • The Gandy sisters both rank among the all-time leading scorers in RMU history. Melanie currently sits 8th all-time with 124 points, while Mackenzie is just 21 away from breaking the all-time record of 179 set by Ashley Levering '09.
  • Clio Kerr currently ranks second all-time in draw controls per game at 3.42. Her seven career man-up goals ranks third all-time.
  • RMU has been formidable at Joe Walton Stadium in recent memory, owning a dominant 21-5 overall record at home dating back to the 2017 campaign.

THE SILVA FILE

Entering her third season at the helm of the Colonials, Katrina Silva brings 13 years of Division I head coaching experience to the table. Before taking over the program in 2018, Silva served as an RMU assistant coach for five years and a volunteer assistant for one.

Previous to her time in Moon Township, Silva led the lacrosse programs at Virginia Tech (four years) and Colgate (seven), in addition to Division III Roanoke College. A goalie in her playing days, she was the 1993 Southeastern Conference defensive player of the year for Towson.

Silva will be joined by the returning Cacki Helmer as well as first-year assistant coach Chelsea Rosiek
