Robert Morris University softball team concludes the tournament portion of its 2020 regular season this weekend by taking part in the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla., March 6-8.
- The Colonials open the tournament Friday, March 6, with a Noon game against Western Michigan. RMU will also face Yale Friday, March 6, and takes on Penn State and Providence Saturday, March 7. Robert Morris concludes the tournament Sunday, March 8, at 11:30 a.m. against Army.
- RMU enters the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational with an overall record of 6-8 (.429) after going 2-3 at the Seahawks Softball Challenge on the campus of UNCW Feb. 28-March 1. The Colonials split a pair of games with both Marist and the host Seahawks and also dropped a decision with Toledo.
- Senior
Taryn Miller hit .467 (7-for-15) during the Seahawk Softball Challenge, driving in a team-high five runs to go along with two runs scored. She posted a pair of doubles during the tournament and has upped her average on the 2020 campaign to .310 (13-for-42).
- Sophomore
Erika Bell and senior
Briana Bunner each hit .438 (7-for-16) at the Seahawk Softball Challenge, with Bunner leading the way with five runs for the Colonials. Bunner also smacked a pair of doubles, hit her second home run of the season and drove in a pair.
- Freshman
Rachael Rhinehart logged her first two collegiate starts at the Seahawk Softball Challenge, pitching 10.2 innings and striking out 14. Overall in the tournament she appeared in three games and posted a 3.28 earned run average (ERA).
- Miller, Bunner and senior
Natalie Higgins will each appear in their 150th career game at the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational. Higgins is RMU's active leader for career games played at 149, while Miller has appeared in 148 contests. Bunner has played in 146 career games.
- RMU opens the home portion of its 2020 schedule after taking part in the Clearwater Spring Break Invitational. The Colonials welcome Niagara to the North Athletic Complex Saturday, March 21, for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader and will also host Canisius Sunday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m.

Picking Your Spot – Senior
Briana Bunner went 3-for-4 with two runs and a double in a 6-5 victory @ UNCW (3/1/20) to help the Colonials close out the Seahawk Softball Challenge with a victory. She picked up her second stolen base of the season to open a rally in the second inning against the Seahawks, igniting a three-run rally by stealing third. Bunner came around to score on a two-run double from senior
Taryn Miller to give Robert Morris an early edge. During her career, Bunner is a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen base attempts.
How About That – Senior
Madison Riggle hit her third home run of the 2020 season in a 6-5 win @ UNCW (3/1/20), as her two-run shot in the top of the seventh gave the Colonials a 6-3 advantage. Riggle is tied for the team lead in round trippers with senior
Natalie Higgins and overall in 2020 is hitting .310 (13-for-52) with nine RBI and a .524 slugging percentage. Riggle had hit two home runs during her career in her previous 94 at bats but already owns three in her first 42 trips to the dish in 2020.
Connor's Cure – For the second consecutive season, Robert Morris will take part in a season long fundraising effort with
Connor's Cure Hit-A-Thon, which will help raise money to help conquer pediatric cancer while benefiting Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. The Hit-A-Thon provides two options to raise money, including a pledge of a certain amount of
money per statistical category for the 2020 season or a flat donation.
