Moon Township, Pa. – Robert Morris University Pat Gallagher Head Coach
Andrew Toole announced Friday that forward
Tyson Brown (Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville) has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) with the Colonials.
Brown is the fourth member of RMU's latest recruiting class, joining guards
Enoch Cheeks (Providence, R.I. / Putnam Science Academy),
Kam Farris (Burlington, Vt. / Redemption Christian Academy) and
Trayden Williams (Charlotte, N.C. / North Mecklenburg), each of whom
signed NLI's with RMU in November.
"We're excited to add Tyson Brown to our latest recruiting class," Toole said. "He's a long, athletic forward that is extremely active around the basket and helps balance out our class with the signing of three guards in November. We're looking forward to Tyson coming in and competing with our other recruits once practice gets underway in the fall."
Brown spent the 2019-20 season with Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Va., where he averaged 13.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game while converting 51.3 percent of his shots from the field. He scored a season-high 40 points against Huntingdon Prep, a contest in which he also grabbed 14 rebounds. In a game against Fork Union, Brown posted 17 rebounds to go along with nine points and five assists.
Under the guidance of Toole, the Colonials posted an overall record of 20-14 (.588) in 2019-20, including a mark of 13-5 (.722) in the Northeast Conference. As the No. 1 seed in the 2020 NEC Tournament, Robert Morris claimed its league-high ninth NEC Tournament crown by earning a
77-67 victory over Saint Francis U (3/10/20) in front of 4,034 fans at Peoples Court at the UPMC Events Center.
RMU returns three starters and six letterwinners in 2020-21, including guards
Dante Treacy and
Jon Williams and forward
AJ Bramah as starters.
In three games of the 2020 NEC Tournament, Bramah paced the Colonials with averages of 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 67.7 percent (21-for-31) from the floor. Treacy, meanwhile, was named the 2020 NEC Tournament MVP after averaging 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.7 steals per contest while knocking down 65.2 percent (15-for-23) of his chances from the field.
Since the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign, Robert Morris has posted an overall record of 261-185 (.585), an average of 20.1 wins per season. During that span the Colonials have earned automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament four times (2009, 2010, 2015, 2020), have appeared in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on three occasions (2008, 2013, 2104) and have played twice in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) (2012, 2019).
