Moon Township, Pa. – Former
Robert Morris University men's basketball standout
Karvel Anderson (2012-14) will take part in the 2020 The Basketball Tournament (TBT), which takes place July 4-14, 2020, at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
The tournament features 24 teams and begins Saturday, July 4, with four games that will be televised live on ESPN. Anderson is a member of the team Power of the Paw, which will open action in the tournament with the final game of round one against Armored Athlete Sunday, July 5, at 9:00 p.m. in a contest that will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
"I couldn't be happier that Karvel gets an opportunity to play in this tournament," RMU Pat Gallagher Head Coach
Andrew Toole said. "Robert Morris has had a number of student-athletes that have had success professionally since leaving their mark on our program, and Karvel is no exception. His success as a member of the Colonials, as well as in his professional career overseas, will be a huge asset for him in this tournament. We're looking forward to watching him compete."
The 2019-20 campaign marked Anderson's fifth season professionally, where he averaged 12.7 points in 15 games with Montakit Fuenlabrada in the Liga ACB, the top professional division in the Spanish basketball league system. He shot 44.9 percent (66-for-147) from the field, including 40.7 percent (37-for-91) from beyond the arc.

Anderson, a native of Elkhart, Ind., played two seasons at Robert Morris, appearing in 69 career games. He scored 1,123 points with the Colonials, becoming just the third student-athlete, and second at the NCAA Division I level, to score at least 1,000 points in two years in an RMU uniform.
Named to the
Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Decade Team in December, Anderson averaged 19.7 points per game as a senior in 2013-14, becoming the third player in program history to claim an NEC scoring title. He shot 46.3 percent (119-for-257) from beyond the arc that season, which ranked seventh in NCAA Division I in three-point field goal percentage.
In his final season with the Colonials, Anderson established RMU single-season school records for points (710), field goals (248), three-point field goals (119), three-point field goals made per game (3.31), double-figure scoring games (33), 20-point scoring contests (19) and 30-point scoring efforts (4) en route to being tabbed the 2014 NEC Player of the Year.
Selected to play in the 2014 Reese's Division I College All-Star Game as part of festivities for the 2014 NCAA Final Four, Anderson helped lead the Colonials to arguably the greatest victory in program history. In front of 3,444 fans at the Charles L. Sewall Center in the first round of the 2013 National Invitation Tournament (NIT), Anderson helped RMU defeat Kentucky, 59-57.
A year later in the first round of the 2014 NIT, Anderson scored a career-high 38 points in an 89-78 victory @ St. John's (3/18/14). He tied a Robert Morris single-game record with nine three-pointers in that game and shot 12-for-20 from the field overall.
Anderson knocked down 201 career three-pointers in two seasons with the Colonials en route to 55 career double-figure scoring games and concluded his career with a shooting percentage of 49.7 percent (391-for-787), including 45.3 percent (201-for-444) from deep. He owns the RMU career record for three-point field goal percentage.

That season Anderson scored a professional career high of 45 points against the Roseto Sharks, knocking down 14 of his 24 attempts from the field, including 8-for-15 from deep, while going 9-for-9 at the free-throw line.
The 2020 roster for Power of the Paw in the TBT also includes former RMU guard Marcquise Reed, who was named the 2015 NEC Rookie of the Year after averaging 15.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals as the Colonials advanced to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
The winner of Sunday's game between No. 15 seed Armored Athlete and No. 18 seed Power of the Paw will advance to face No. 2 seed Overseas Elite Thursday, July 9, at 4:00 p.m. in a game slated to be seen live on ESPN.
