Hayashi Lifts Colonials Over Raiders In Overtime

DAYTON, Oh. - Kaoru Hayashi's second overtime game winner of the season helped the Robert Morris University women's soccer team secure its first Horizon League win of the 2021 campaign with a 2-1 victory over the Wright State Raiders at Alumni Field.

Senior Defender Allie Ball also scored her first career NCAA goal for the Colonials in the win.

RMU survived two early chances from the Raiders thanks to some sharp goalkeeper from Isabella Bohlen, who came up big with a number of stops right off the opening kickoff.

The freshman turned away two point-blank chances from WSU's Brittney Petrosky just outside the six yard box in the first ten minutes of action to prevent the Colonials from sliding into another early hole.

Ball's historic tally finally sent the Colonials off and running in the 14' after a quick touch from Hayashi off a free kick gave the Bridgeville, Pa. native enough of a shooting lane to slot home a strike that beat WSU keeper Jessika Seward from just outside the box.

The Colonials kept the pressure up, following up the initial goal with chances from Haleigh Finale and Kayla Veloso-Lima, including a second effort from Finale that forced Seward into another save.

A third point blank save from Bohlen on Olga Massombo punctuated an evenly played first half.

Wright State leveled the score in the 60' after Petrosky finally managed to make one of her chances count, beating Bohlen from the left side of the box as the Raiders pulled even.

RMU continued to put the ball on net over the final half hour of action, nearly regaining the lead with under ten minutes to play with successive short range chances from Veloso-Lima and Gabriella Lecuona, however both failed to crack Seward for a second time.

Unable to secure the win in regulation, the game headed into extra time before Hayashi finally ended things with her second OT winner this year, curling home a perfectly placed strike from the corner off a set piece that snuck through to give RMU its first conference win of the year.
