Flames Hand Colonials Road Loss

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Robert Morris University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the UIC Flames Thursday night at Flames Field.

Kaoru Hayashi led RMU with four total shots.

A back and forth first half saw RMU and UIC each fire seven shots, however the Flames managed the more dangerous opportunities, putting five on target including a pair from short range inside the box.

Kaitlyn Montague nearly opened the scoring in the 14', testing Isabella Bohlen with a hard volley from 16 yards out that she managed to snuff out before it was cleared away.

Veloso-Lima answered back minutes later with a chance for RMU from nearly the same spot at the other end of the pitch, however she was also denied by the keeper as Flames goalie Lena Kurz got over to make the stop.

Bohlen was again called on to make another key save in the 31' when Montague curled in a nice effort on a free kick that struck the post before she was able to cover up the rebound and help the Colonials escape danger yet again.

Bohlen would finish with five saves in the first half as RMU and UIC headed into the locker rooms scoreless.

More close calls ensued in the second for RMU as Haleigh Finale saw her shot in the box blocked away and Sheridan Reid was denied on a short-range chance by Kurz to keep it scoreless.

Two nice individual efforts from Montague less than three minutes apart helped the Flames grab a 2-0 lead in the 70', putting RMU in a deep hole for the final 20 minutes of action.

Despite pressure from the Colonials a breakthrough goal never came as UIC held on to win 2-0.
