Moon Township, Pa. – The RMU rowing team concluded the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule Saturday by taking part in the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The two-day regatta featured junior, collegiate, open and masters events.

SINGLES AND DOUBLES

RMU entered a pair of singles and two doubles as part of the Head of the Fish, with junior Emily Kerry and sophomore Jasmine Thompson taking part in singles racing. Thompson recorded a time of 16:06.85 to finish sixth, while Kerry placed 10th at 17:17.87. In the women's collegiate doubles, the Colonials raced a pair of boats, including seniors Kaitlyn Grubbs and Addison Grieco, who crossed the finish line with a time of 14:36.63 to finish seventh. Also competing in doubles for RMU was senior Amilia Rosa and sophomore Maraea Ody, who posted a time of 16:03.49.

QUOTABLE
"The opportunity to race at Head of the Fish was one to remember for our program," junior Maria Ringo said. "It was the biggest race the RMU women's rowing team has ever attended. The face that we were able to race against some big, well-known schools and place as well as we did makes me excited to see what we can don in our championship season this spring."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED

The RMU Collegiate Four+ provided an inspired showing at the Head of the Fish, with two entrants finishing in the top 20 of a race that featured over 40 participants. The RMU Varsity 4 recorded a time of 13:24.46 to finish 16th. The boat featured Sebastiana Lopez as the coxswain and included Mary Woods, Marissa Beck, Christina Brunette and Madyson Orlando. Syracuse took home each of the top four spots and five of the top eight in the event. The second RMU Varsity 4 finished with a time of 13:42.77 to finish 20th.

QUOTABLE

"Racing at Head of the Fish not only put into perspective how large the rowing community is, but also how valuable of an experience it is to compete against nationally-ranked programs from a multitude of different states," said Brunette. "When you have the opportunity to compete at a regatta of that size, the shared love and passion for the sport of rowing is overwhelmingly evident, and there is truly nothing else like it."
